Injuries at Trampoline Parks on the Rise

There has been a steady rise in the number of trampoline parks throughout the United States, and Middle Tennessee is no different. In a September 2016 article in the medical magazine Pediatrics, it notes that, according to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, between trampoline parks and trampolines there are 100,000 emergency room visits a year in the United States.

Trampoline parks tend to have more sprains and dislocation injuries than home trampolines according to the study. In addition, home trampoline use results in more head and neck injuries, while trampoline parks have lower extremity injuries being more common. In fact, 58% of trampoline park injuries are to the lower extremities. However, the frequency of head injury increases as the age of the injured person rises into teenage years.   

The study notes as well an increase in the number of injuries at trampoline parks. The study notes an alarming increase in the number of injuries occurring at the trampoline parks, but also in the severity of these injuries such as spinal cord injuries. The trend appears to show an increase in injuries at these parks.
